UPDATE*: Per Todd Zolecki, Utley was placed on waivers SUNDAY, not Saturday. His 47-hour waiver period expired at 1 p.m. ET today without any team claiming the veteran, meaning that he is now eligible to be traded to any team with his approval.
The Phillies placed Chase Utley on revocable waivers Saturday, according to Fox Sports’ Jon Morosi.
The waiver period—which lasts 47 hours—is scheduled to expire today, meaning Utley will be eligible for a trade to any interested team—albeit with his approval. The 36-year-old still holds “10-and-5 rights,” which allow him to block trades that he doesn’t approve of.
Utley, who is a prime candidate to get traded before the Aug. 31 waiver trade deadline, was being monitored during this weekend’s Padres series by a scout from the San Francisco Giants’ organization, according to CSNPhilly’s Jim Salisbury
.The scout in attendance was likely impressed by what he saw, as the veteran notched four hits (three doubles) in 10 at-bats while driving in two.
The Cubs, Angels, and Yankess have also been keeping tabs on Utley, according to reports. The beloved second baseman recently stated to Phillies beat writer Todd Zolecki that he would “definitely listen to” possible trade scenarios proposed by the club.
“I do love Philadelphia, Utley said. “I’ve had a great time playing here, but out of respect for them, I would definitely listen to them.”
