Odubel Herrera’s Left Hamstring Injury Costly to the Phillies

Odubel Herrera, the Phillies’ centerfielder sustained an injury in his left hamstring. It was not a horrific injury, but it still sent him off the field. While the rest of the team practices and plays, he is forced to sit by and watch. This is a rather strange experience for him, considering that he has always been at the center of action. In fact, it is his first time to sustain such an injury in his career. While this can be disconcerting to any player, it is even more worrisome for his team which is yet to find a replacement for him. Read on to find more MLB betting odds for the season.

Herrera’s Replacement
The Phillies showed no hurry to find Herrera’s replacement. This could be because they already have a full bullpen and bench, hence they thought that it would be extremely easy to find a new player. Secondly, they remain undecided on who exactly should fill up the void left by Herrera. By Friday, they had yet to settle on a replacement. They played with 24 players.

Ben Lively is likely to ask Ben Lively to start playing in September. This will force Mark Leiter Jr. back into the bullpen. Other options include players Dylan Cozens and Brock Stassi. They are both position players who have earned their majors. Cozens is set to be promoted in September, but he is still stuck at Triple- A Lehigh Valley. He is an outstanding player by any standards. He had two hits including a double in Friday’s game. He could reach majors this season, but his lack of production could stall him. Stassi on the other hand is set to return in September for bench depth.

Team Shuffles
The team has a 40- man roster, but they could alter it a bit. Andrew Pulling could come as bench bat. Carlos Tocci could earn himself a name this season. Both these players are up for selection this winter as extra outfielders in the majors.

But when is all said and done, it is really no secret that the team would still prefer Herrera, and not without good reason. His excellent performance over the years has proven to be invaluable to the team. His continued his hitting streak for 17 games, which is only comparable to Raul Ibanez’s performance way back in 2010. He has hit a .383 with a .450 on base percentage with a .692 slugging percentage. This astounding performance earned him quite a name in the National League.

His consistency and reliability is quite appreciated by the team. Although he feels tempted to return to the field, he thinks it best to wait till 25th August so that he can play without fear of injury.

Roman Quinn is perhaps the most affected player by the changes in the team. He suffered an injury to his arm, which also forced him out of the field. He is actually quite prone to injury, which is why he is best selected as a bench player.

Extra Bases
Sixto Sanchez is still trying to make a name for himself, since he is one of the youngest players on the team. His Friday game was the best he’s had since his promotion. Jared Eickhoff will pitch on Saturday night against the Giant’s Lefthander, Ty Blach.
