Phillies Acquire Reliever Pat Neshek from Houston

Two days after the World Series concluded, the hot stove has already begun, and our Philadelphia Phillies were the first to strike. In what was an embarrassing performance of the bullpen down the stretch of the 2016 season, the Phils are already addressing it. They have acquired RHP Pat Neshek from the Houston Astros for a player to be named later or cash.

Neshek has been one of the most effective relief pitchers in the bigs over the last five seasons as he compiled a 2.75 ERA over that span. He made his first and only All Star appearance as a member of the St. Louis Cardinals in 2014 – appearing in 71 games while posting an ERA of 1.87. Over the last two seasons, Neshek made his home in Houston. During his time in Houston, Neshek carried a 3.36 ERA in 126 total games. He tossed 101.2 innings and allowed just 82 hits.

Neshek has a new home now and will be a backbone piece at the end of Pete Mackanin‘s bullpen. The right-hander’s submarine style of pitching has contributed to career 2.93 ERA over ten years.
