It was a great year for Major League Baseball. One could hardly argue against declaring the 2017 World Series one of the best in recent history.

Not surprisingly, however, even before the Astros had stopped polishing their hard-earned Commissioner’s Trophy, the MLB betting odds to win the World Series next year were released.

And while the early favorites are all known, with seven of last year’s 10 playoff teams leading the way, what are the odds for the Phillies?

If you’re expecting good news, then you might find comfort in knowing that at +8000 they’re slightly better than a handful of teams.

But if there’s anything baseball teaches, is that dreams can come true, especially if the Phillies can successfully pull off the major changes it has planned among other things.

Back in November, the team designated former No. 1 draft pick Mark Appel for assignment while adding right-handers Seranthony Dominguez, Franklyn Kilome, Jose Taveras and left-hander Ranger Suarez to their 40-man roster.

Kilome is one of the franchise’s top pitching prospects, while Dominquez, Suarez, and Taveras are among the organization’s top-30 prospects.

The Phillies also have the third overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft which promises to be as loaded as the 2011 class that found Francisco Lindor, Gerrit Cole, George Springer, Sonny Gray, Joe Panik, and Jose Fernandez in its ranks.

This could be huge for the Phillies who could potentially find some top talent and add impact players to the fold.

If Philadelphia dips into free agency, general manager Matt Kletnak is already looking over some top prospects that they could cash in on such as Chi Chi Gonzalez, Mike Fiers, J.J. Hoover, Drew Smyly, and Bruce Rondon.

The Phillies are probably still some years away from playoff contention, but if they play their cards right they could look forward to ending their recent struggles.

But, even at a long shot the Phillies have everything to gain in the new season and can look forward of giving the battle and, hopefully, make some fan’s dreams come true.
