Okay. Calm down. Trout was, again, at the Eagles game on Sunday (they beat the Cowboys … yay). And Carson Wentz threw a touchdown pass to Zach Ertz to give the Birds the lead. And then, after throwing that pass, Wentz handed the ball to … oh boy … yup … to Mike Trout.
Okay … okay …

No, but seriously, Trout – the local boy – loves his Eagles. And being in a high place in sports culture, Trout gets to be friends with said Eagles if he wants. So he and Wentz are buddy-buddy. Which is pretty damn cool. I mean, it’s your football team’s franchise quarterback being pals with the best baseball player in the world, who also happens to be a native of the area and a major-league Eagles (and Phillies) fan.
Would it be amazing if Trout played for the Phillies? Damn straight. Should the Phillies trade for Trout right now, or this year, or as soon as possible?
No.
The Angels would require a bag of your finest prospects, thereby reducing the farm to a barren wasteland, upon any Trout trade. The Phils are undergoing a smart, steady rebuild. This is not the time to trade for Trout.
*MAYBE* in two years we can revisit that.
Until then, dream of grabbing Trout on the free agent market in 2020. There’s a sure possibility the Phils will be the highest bidder.
Now back to your regularly scheduled quiet time.
