Altherr can’t save atrocious pitching; Phils swept by Seattle

Aaron Altherr hit two home runs Wednesday (he now has four in three games), but it wasn’t even close to enough to defeat the Seattle Mariners, who swept the Phillies by an 11-6 score.

The problem once again was the Phils bullpen, giving up eight runs in the final three frames. In the two-game set Phils relievers surrendered 13 runs. That won’t play; I’ll have more about that in a bit.

Meanwhile former Phillie Carlos Ruiz did what every former Phillie does, and that’s beat up on the Phillies. He hit a three-run double crucial in the seventh, then added a sacrifice fly in the eighth, for good measure. Also, Robinson Cano went 4-for-5 in the game. He’s good.

The Phils get another off day Thursday – thank goodness. They’re back at it Friday against the Nationals. Ugh.
