Since the big club is having us drown our sorrows, we might as well see what the future holds, so on a beautiful but scorching Sunday evening in Reading Phillies Nation fans came together to catch some Fighin’ Phils action.
Phillies Nation guests sat down the third base line picnic tables, getting an incredible view of the field. Also, who can pass up an all-you-can-eat buffet that featured burgers, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, cookies – should I go on? Lots of baseball chatter and eating engaged our readers.
As for the game, Reading defeated the Hartford Yard Goats rather easily, 7-2. The main attraction in Reading, second baseman Scott Kingery, went 3-for-5 with his minor-league-leading 18th home run of the year. His average is up to .306 on the season. Other highly touted prospects, Andrew Pullin and Carlos Tocci, each recorded a base hit (look for an upcoming article on Andrew Pullin as I spoke to the hot-hitting outfielder before the game). Starter Tommy Bergjans went five innings and allowed two runs. Victor Arano, who has a 1.42 ERA, finished the last two innings.
A great night all around in Baseballtown!
