The Phillies have traded left-handed pitcher Joely Rodriguez to the Rangers for a player-to-be-named-later or cash, according to Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star Telegram.
Rodriguez has struggled immensely in 2017, going 1-2 with a 6.33 ERA in 27 innings. He struck out 18 batters but walked 15 and, worse, gave up 37 hits along the way.
The 25-year-old was recently designated for assignment by the Phillies, and while he still has potential, it’s not in the Phils’ interest to hold onto a left-handed reliever if they can get any value for him.
