Phils muster just four hits in 2-1 loss

The Phillies returned to their losing ways tonight against the Mets. After a rough start, allowing a run on four walks and three hits in the first two innings, Ben Lively gutted through 6.1 innings while giving up just two runs. Curtis Granderson and Travis d’Arnaud tagged the rookie for RBI singles in the first and fourth innings, respectively.

Ty Kelly got the Phils on the board in the fifth with an RBI single that scored Andrew Knapp, who reached on a “triple.” What looked to be a routine fly ball to center field, Granderson lost the ball in the sky, which enabled Knapp to get to third. It was the Phils’ first hit of the game. Other than that, Jacob deGrom

dominated the Phils’ lineup, tossing seven innings while striking out 11. Nick Williams, who made his major league debut, recorded his first big league hit off deGrom with a single up the middle in the seventh.

The Phils aim to even the series tomorrow for late afternoon matchup featuring Jeremy Hellickson and Zack Wheeler. First pitch scheduled for 4:10 p.m.
