Skipping the rookie leagues this week; let’s focus on some of the higher profile prospects in the system as we go through the minors.

Highlights:
- Scott Kingery: .308/.336/.487, 10 XBH, 28 K, 5 BB, 117 AB
- J.P. Crawford: .224/.338/.369, 26 XBH, 68 K, 59 BB, 339 AB
- Rhys Hoskins: .283/.385/.563, 50 XBH, 67 K, 58 BB, 364 AB
- Jorge Alfaro: .244/.333/.344, 21 XBH, 104 K, 16 BB, 308 AB
- Thomas Eshelman: 84 IP, 2.14 ERA, 58 K, 10 BB
- Ben Lively: 79.1 IP, 2.50 ERA, 67 K, 13 BB
The Pigs went 3-4 this week. Kingery is on a tear as of late, boosting his average back above .300 with five home runs. Hoskins is steady as ever, and check out how similar his discipline numbers are to Crawford. Alfaro, slightly worse. It’ll take time to develop that part of his game.
READING
Highlights:
- Jiandido Tromp: .298/.347/.511, 38 XBH, 81 K, 23 BB
- Carlos Tocci: .306/.362/.401, 24 XBH, 54 K, 25 BB, 372 AB
- Drew Anderson: 95.2 IP, 3.76 ERA, 78 K, 33 BB
- Cole Irvin: 40 IP, 2.70 ERA, 34 K, 11 BB
- Jose Taveras: 11.1 IP, 3.97 ERA, 11 K, 1 BB
Two wins for Reading on the week as their second-half slide continues (they’re now 14.5 in back of Trenton for first place in the Eastern Division). Tromp has quietly had a nice year, slugging 13 home runs and 22 doubles at age 23. Taveras pitched well his last time out against Altoona, striking out nine. Things are a little different for Alberto Tirado, who in 10 relief innings with Reading has already walked 13.
CLEARWATER
Highlights:
- Cornelius Randolph: .258/.351/.408, 27 XBH, 99 K, 47 BB, 333 AB
- Franklyn Kilome: 91.1 IP, 2.66 ERA, 79 K, 37 BB
- Jeff Singer: 50 IP, 2.34 ERA, 66 K, 28 BB
- Edgar Garcia: 66 IP, 3.82 ERA, 70 K, 19 BB
Four straight losses for Clearwater, then four straight wins. Ranger Suarez
struggled in his last outing, while
JoJo Romero gave up 12 hits and five runs to Bradenton before rebounding against Fort Myers. Kilome was relatively sharp against Daytona. Randolph’s discipline stats are pretty solid.
LAKEWOOD
Highlights:
A tough week for the BlueClaws (who played as the BruceClaws on Saturday to honor Bruce Springsteen) with just two wins, both by 2-0. Sanchez pitched a scoreless five last Sunday, and this Sunday (not indicated in these numbers) went a scoreless six, striking out five.
WILLIAMSPORT
Highlights:
- Greg Pickett: .324/.375/.444, 9 XBH, 35 K, 10 BB, 108 AB
- Jhailyn Ortiz: .300/.423/.620, 17 XBH, 28 K, 14 BB, 100 AB
- Nick Maton: .291/.376/.337, 4 XBH, 22 K, 12 BB, 86 AB
- Will Stewart: 35 IP, 3.34 ERA, 28 K, 11 BB
- Kyle Young: 33.1 IP, 1.35 ERA, 40 K, 8 BB
Also a tough week for Williamsport, who also won just two games. Young is having a great start to his 2017, while Ortiz is straight mashing. He now has seven home runs on the young season.
Tim MalcolmTim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
