Yu Darvish’s no-trade clause doesn’t include Phillies

Ken Rosenthal tweeted out the 10 teams listed in pitcher Yu Darvish’s no-trade clause. They are:

  • Baltimore Orioles
  • Boston Red Sox
  • Chicago Cubs
  • Chicago White Sox
  • Cleveland Indians
  • Colorado Rockies
  • Detroit Tigers
  • Oakland Athletics
  • Pittsburgh Pirates
  • Toronto Blue Jays

It’s an extremely odd list. Typically guys may list teams that are very small market only, or they may list teams that are very big market only, or they may list teams that are in a part of the country they’d rather not call home.

But this list? Maybe it’s “no small-market teams unless they’re in desirable places like Florida; also, I don’t like Chicago and Boston.” I don’t know. Only Yu knows.

And guess what, the Phillies aren’t on the list. Thus, the Phils could pursue a trade for Darvish that he couldn’t block.

Now, the Phillies are bad and probably wouldn’t pursue a trade for Darvish this year (unless it comes with an automatic extension that the sides negotiate, but even then …). The point is Darvish would potentially come to Philadelphia, so maybe in the offseason if the Phils may want to make a splash in free agency, this becomes more relevant.

Either way, weird list.
