It’s time for a daily news report.
It’s Arizona Fall League time, and a number of players in the organization are duking it out for the Glendale Desert Dogs.
One of those players is Elniery Garcia, who pitched four shutout innings for Glendale, striking out five in a win Monday over Mesa.
Other Phils playing in the AFL include Edgar Cabral (.273/.273/.273 in 11 AB), Zach Green (.263/.263/.421 in 19 AB), Cornelius Randolph (.059/.158/.118 in 17 AB), J.D. Hammer (0.00 ERA, 1 K, 1 BB in 2.2 IP), Garrett Cleavinger (0.00 ERA, 1 K in 3 IP) and Trevor Bettencourt (0.00 ERA, 2 K, 1 BB in 2 IP).
There’s talk about expansion in Major League Baseball, and if it happened, Portland, Oregon, and Montreal are for now the most likely cities to land new teams.
If the league expands to 32 teams, that means likely realignment. Tracy Ringolsby for Baseball America wrote a piece detailing how a new, 32-team league could look, and oh boy:
East: Atlanta, Baltimore, Cincinnati, Miami, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Tampa Bay, Washington
Read that over. Notice there’s no National or American league here (they’re gone). Also notice the Phils don’t have the Mets in the division anymore.
Look for my piece later.
