Goodbye Henderson, though we never knew you at all …

It’s time for a daily news report …

Roster rundown
So the purge begins. The Phillies on Wednesday announced a few moves that bring the 40-man roster down to 44.

Huh? We explain here.

Anyway, Ty Kelly is exploring free agency. So are Henderson Alvarez and Kevin Siegrist. They could always come back, but for now, they’re not.

A few other players are likely free agents, including Hyun Soo-Kim and now veteran Phillie Andres Blanco.

This is Rhyscenter

Rhys Hoskins is all over ESPN. Last night he was on “Baseball Tonight” and “SportsCenter”. This morning? Back on “SportsCenter.”

So if you’re in the Bristol, Connecticut, area, maybe you can grab lunch with Rhys Hoskins.

Okay, don’t try that. Just tune in.

Ponder this

Interesting column from the Patch newspapers yesterday: Writer Justin Heinze combs the Phillies’ roster and realizes just about everyone in the Phils’ future plans are thanks to Ruben Amaro Jr.

That doesn’t mean Matt Klentak has been bad. We still don’t have full verdict on the Ken Giles trade, though it’s a shame Vince Velasquez hasn’t quite worked out the way we’d hoped. Recent trade deadline deals? Too early to tell. Michael Saunders? Look, every general manager has signings that you quickly flush down the toilet.

Really this offseason is the first for Klentak to really put his stamp on the organization. And while I’ve liked how he’s run the front office, the next few months will really test him and give us the best idea of where he stands among the rest of the general managerocracy.
