Report: Phillies brought in Hale; Nationals fire Baker

The Phillies brought in former Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale for an interview, according to Jon Heyman at FanRag Sports.

Heyman says Hale – who went 148-176 from 2015-16 with Arizona – impressed the Phillies. Hale is currently a coach with the Athletics.

Meanwhile, the ranks of teams needing managers now include the Nationals, who fired Dusty Baker Friday. Despite a 192-132 record over two seasons with Washington, Baker won’t last to see a third year. His Nationals failed to make it out of the first round of the postseason in both years, adding to Baker’s long record of managing clubs good enough to make the postseason but unable to win a world championship. Over a career managing San Francisco, Chicago, Cincinnati and Washington, Baker has a .418 postseason winning percentage with one National League pennant to show for it.
