Manager madness
So many names being thrown around in the Phillies’ managerial search, but that’s the way it is. Don’t take these rumors for more than a grain of salt until we actually hear of the Phillies interviewing a candidate, but here are all the guys reportedly being considered by the Phils:
Again, we’ve heard no talk about interviews, so this right now is just a list of names.
Clay helped mold ’em
An interesting piece that got lost in the shuffle late in the season: Clay Buchholz apparently acted as a mentor to the young pitching staff all season, even after succumbing to an elbow injury that ended his season way back in April. According to Todd Zolecki’s article, Buchholz would go to Texas when the team was on the road (he didn’t need to be with the team once his season ended), then go back to Philly whenever the team was home. He worked with the starters and passed on knowledge.
That’s a cool thing, as again, Buchholz was not obligated to stay with the team once he had the surgery.
Astros, Dodgers move on
The Astros (behind Charlie Morton and Ken Giles) came back to beat the Red Sox and win the best-of-five ALDS on Monday, while the Dodgers swept the Diamondbacks clean from existence.
Meanwhile the Yankees and Indians have a decisive game five to play on Wednesday, and the Cubs will look to take out the Nationals today at Wrigley Field. The Nats could’ve been up two games to one, but Dusty Baker removed Max Scherzer from game three after giving up his first hit, a double to Ben Zobrist. The Cubs promptly tied the game, then took the lead an inning later.
Baker is a proven winner, but maybe the Nationals should just hire a manager only for the postseason.
