Typically teams will attempt to come to an agreement with players before a hearing, but if not, an arbiter will determine between two figures how much the player should earn in 2018. Teams can also work out deals with players until the actual arbitration meeting.
The Phillies recently announced an agreement with Cameron Rupp. Today, they’ve announced agreements with both Maikel Franco and Luis Garcia.
Franco will earn $2.95 million in 2018. He earned $560,000 in 2017, a significant raise but not as high as projected by MLB Trade Rumors. They placed Franco’s 2018 salary at $3.6 million.
Meanwhile, Garcia will earn $1.2 million. MLB Trade Rumors projected Garcia to earn $1.4 million in 2018.
The only player arbitration-eligible player left is Cesar Hernandez, who MLB Trade Rumors pegs to make $4.7 million in 2018. Hernandez is a long-term contract candidate, but he’s also a trade candidate.
Meanwhile in San Diego, Freddy Galvis will earn $6.825 million next year. With the Phils last year he earned $4.35 million.
