I follow Twitter via Tweetdeck, which allows me to see multiple feeds at once. And, since I’m always patiently waiting for the next round of news about the Phillies, I keep a “Phillies” feed. Any tweet with “Phillies” in it, or any Twitter user whose name includes “Phillies,” shows up in the feed.
This means tweets about the Phillies, but a lot of them are junk. There are robots tweeting about tickets or content. There are tons of users who think the Phillies are still a 100-loss team (they haven’t been since 1961). A lot of Yankees fans hate the Phillies (the feeling is mutual). A lot of blah, blah, blah, and a lot of it is unnecessary.
And then there’s this stuff:
Phillies- be like Phil and love Dan
Dannies- be like Dan and love Phil
I know this is a joke but I’m not loving the way people are arguing over Phillies vs. Dannies
We’re all a big family and we should love and support both of them https://t.co/05YZvPbsgj— I CAN’T WAIT UNTIL MANIA??? (@catdoesitbetter) January 17, 2018

So this is really weird stuff. Apparently there are “Dannies” and there are “Phillies.” And from what I’ve gathered, “Phillies” are people who love someone named Phil. “Dannies” have to be people who love someone named Dan. And these guys are British?
Well, I did some digging (it literally took 11 seconds) and I found out that Phil is Phil Lester, a YouTuber from England with 6.85 MILLION Twitter followers. His YT channel is “AmazingPhil.” He hosted a radio show on BBC Radio 1 some four years ago and is 30, but yet still is pretty famous among the youngs, who refer to themselves as, you guessed it, Phillies.
But who is Dan?
Dan is Dan Howell, his cohort in videos and his boyfriend in life. They tour the world together (yes, on July 13 in Reading you can see Phil and Dan on tour), and here’s a 12-minute video in which they advertise a calendar of them posing with dogs. Gripping entertainment.
So that’s the Phil and Dan story. The more you know. Also, I’m suddenly old and don’t understand the kids.
It is a slow offseason.
