The Phillies announced Tuesday that they will posthumously induct Roy Halladay into the team’s Wall of Fame with an Aug. 4 ceremony.
Halladay, who went 55-29 with a 3.25 ERA, 622 strikeouts and 137 walks over a four seasons with the Phillies, died Nov. 7 when the plane he was piloting crashed into the Gulf of Mexico.
Joining Halladay in the Wall of Fame will be Pat Gillick, who served as general manager from November 2005 to November 2008 and oversaw the Phils’ second world championship in the ’08 season. He was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2011 and returned to the Phils in 2014 to serve as team president, then became a senior advisor when Andy MacPhail was hired to steer baseball operations. He remains a senior advisor today.
The ceremony takes place during the Phillies’ annual alumni weekend, which takes place this year during a series against the Miami Marlins.
Tim MalcolmTim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
