Morning news: Spring training ends with a tie

Good morning!

BASEBALL TOMORROW.

THE FINAL GAME: The Phillies could’ve won their final Grapefruit League game of the year, but nope. Edgar Garcia gave up a late run and the Phillies tied the Pirates – fittingly, I guess – 5-5. Aaron Altherr homered.

Meanwhile Jake Arrieta gave up four runs off seven hits in three innings, but he said he felt good. That’s fine. Let’s get to Atlanta.

The Phils finished the spring with a 13-17 record. Okay.

ABOVE THE FULD: Matt Breen profiled Sam Fuld, who will prove instrumental in working with players in delivering data in manageable morsels. I like the idea that he’s drafting up a bunch of cheat sheets everyday for players to carry in their pockets.

THOME DAY: On June 14, the Phillies will honor soon-to-be Hall of Famer Jim Thome. A ceremony will take place before a 1 p.m. game against the Rockies.

TODAY: No game! But tomorrow … game! Holy crap! Enjoy this last day without meaningful baseball, because something is telling me we’ll be occupied for a long time …
