2018 Gameday

Gameday 2018: Braves (15-11) at Phillies (16-10)

After last night’s stale potato chip and flat Coca-Cola of a baseball game, the Phillies will try to take two of three against those old Atlanta Braves today.

It’ll be the last time the Phils see the Braves for a month. So that’s nice.

J.P. Crawford suffered a forearm strain last night and will head to the 10-day disabled list. It’s a shame to lose him, because while he’s been slow to get comfortable at the major league level, since April 10 (13 games) he’s hitting .275/.341/.500. Yeah, he’s not bad!

Scott Kingery will be the shortstop while Crawford is out. And Jesmuel Valentin is coming up; welcome to the majors!

Gametime: 1:35 p.m.

The lineup:

  1. Hernandez – 2B
  2. Santana – 1B
  3. Herrera – CF
  4. Hoskins – LF
  5. Altherr – RF
  6. Knapp – C
  7. Franco – 3B
  8. Kingery – SS
  9. Velasquez

Pitchers: Vince Velasquez (1-3, 4.50 ERA) vs. Brandon McCarthy (3-0 3.38 ERA)

It’s Velasquez vs. McCarthy, Part III. McCarthy won the first two matchups, and I don’t even need to look that up.

Your Gameday Beer: In honor of Odubel Herrera’s climb-the-fence-and-rob-the-shrub-of-a-home-run feat last night, here’s All Day IPA from Founders. I truly think this is the best, pound-for-pound post-hike IPA. It’s full bodied, sessionable but just experimental enough (you’ll get some sweetness along with a medium hop body). And it’s available in a ton of places. If you’re ever in a crunch and need a quick anytime beer, All Day is my choice.

Go Phillies!
