Gameday 2018: Phillies (1-2) at Mets (2-1)

The Phillies visit the Mets for the first time this season. Last night’s game was postponed because it snowed earlier in the day … but then the sun came out and it was fine by evening. Meanwhile today it rained, and now it’s just extremely stupidly cold. I’ll be at the game. Hypothermia is fun!

Now let’s turn to Alicia Keys:

New York!

Concrete jungle where pitching changes

Make you freeze your ass off

Now you’re in New York!

Gametime: 7:10 p.m.

ATTENTION: The game tonight is not on an actual television network. Nope. BUT you can stream it on the NBC Sports App. We are truly living in the golden age of something.

The lineup:

  1. Hernandez – 2B
  2. Santana – 1B
  3. Altherr – RF
  4. Hoskins – LF
  5. Herrera – CF
  6. Kingery – 3B
  7. Alfaro – C
  8. Lively – P
  9. Crawford – SS

Pitchers: Ben Lively (0-0, 0.00 ERA) vs. Matt Harvey (0-0, 0.00 ERA)

Scott Kingery is playing for Maikel Franco once again, while Odubel Herrera moves down to the 5-hole. J.P. Crawford bats ninth.

Your Gameday Beer: One of my favorite New York breweries is SingleCut Beersmiths out of Astoria, Queens, which is relatively close to Citi Field only by the naked eye. See, on the map it doesn’t look that far away, but know, fair reader, that everything is far away from Citi Field. The Mets’ ballpark is in the middle of a gray hellscape of body shops, which is surrounded by just parks and the best damn dim sum you’ll ever enjoy. And highway, lots of highway.

Anyway SingleCut is awesome – they play great vinyl and make dank beers that you can enjoy outside while facing a shopping center. Drink a Softly Spoken Magic Spells, which is outstanding.

Go Phillies!

Tim first found the Phillies as a little infant at Veteran’s Stadium, cheering on a Juan Samuel game-winning home run in his very first game. With the pinstripes in his blood, he witnessed Terry Mulholland’s 1990 no-hitter, “Steve Carlton Night” at the Vet, game three of the 1993 World Series, countless games during the charmed 2008 championship season and various road excursions. Since November 2007 Tim’s been writing about them daily at Phillies Nation, becoming one of the world’s most popular Phillies scribes. You can catch him on Twitter and Facebook, as well. When he’s not talking about the Phils he’s relaxing with a St. Bernardus ABT 12 or one of his many favored brews.
