The Philadelphia Phillies bullpen has been anything but consistent through the first 14 games of the season, posting a 4.64 ERA in 54.1 innings.
One of Philadelphia’s bigger pitching acquisitions over the offseason was right-hander David Robertson. The veteran reliever turned in one of his best outings of the season to this point on Sunday. He hurled two scoreless innings with two strikeouts in Philadelphia’s extra-inning win against the Marlins.
Still, Robertson hasn’t looked like his 2018 self and it looks like that may be due to injury. On Monday, the Phillies placed the right-hander on the 10-day injured list with elbow soreness. The team recalled Drew Anderson from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to fill his spot:
Robertson, 34, signed a two-year, $23 million contract with the Phillies this season after going 8-3 with a 3.23 ERA in 69 appearances for the New York Yankees in 2018. He got off to a rough start to his Phils career, surrendering four runs in his first three appearances. He has since bounced back, tossing 4.2 scoreless frames over the last four games. According to Scott Lauber of The Philadelphia Inquirer
, Robertson said that he has felt som “on-again, off-again discomfort in his forearm for a while”. An MRI is scheduled for Tuesday.Anderson returns to Philadelphia after making one start in Lehigh Valley, allowing four runs in four innings. He appeared in five games for the Phillies last season, posting a 4.97 ERA.
