Minor League Mash-Up: Haseley, Moniak heating up

The weather is getting hotter, and so are the bats in the Philadelphia Phillies farm system.

Notable Performances

• Kyle Dohy is starting to come around in Triple-A. On Tuesday, he went two scoreless innings in relief and struck out four.
• Deivy Grullon went 2-4 with a double and an RBI on Thursday. Grullon then went 4-4 with two home runs, four RBIs and three runs scored on Saturday.
• David Parkinson had a quality outing for Reading this week. He went six innings, allowing one run on four hits and a walk. He struck out five.
• J.D. Hammer pitched in relief of Parkinson in that game and he faced three batters and struck out all three.
• Mickey Moniak went 2-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored for Reading on Thursday. Moniak was better on Friday, going 3-4 with a double. He topped off his week with a 2-4, two runs scored performance on Sunday.
• In that same game on Thursday, Adam Haseley went 2-4 with a double and a RBI. Haseley added a two-run homer on Friday. He then had a monster game Saturday, going 3-4 with a pair of solo home runs and an outfield assist.
• Adonis Medina had an encouraging start for Reading on Sunday. He went five scoreless innings, allowing four hits and two walks, while striking out five.
• Alec Bohm went 2-5 with a home run and two RBIs on Monday. Bohm then went 3-4 with two doubles and a RBI on Tuesday. Bohm went 2-4 with two doubles and three RBIs on Friday.
• Simon Muzziotti went 2-5 with a RBI on Monday as well. He also went 2-4 with a RBI on Friday. He wasn’t done yet, as he went 3-5 with a double and an outfield assist on Saturday.
• Nick Maton went 3-5 with a RBI for Clearwater on Monday. He then went 3-4 with a home run and two RBIs on Tuesday.
• Daniel Brito had a nice game on Thursday, going 2-5 with a double and three RBIs.
• Ethan Lindow had a solid outing in Lakewood on Tuesday. He went five innings, allowing two unearned runs. He only allowed four baserunners and struck out eight.
• Dominic Pipkin pitched five innings, allowing no earned runs for Lakewood this week as well. He also only allowed four baserunners, but only struck out one.
• Luis Garcia had a two-run home run for Lakewood on Friday.
• Francisco Morales was awesome in that Friday game – he pitched three scoreless innings of relief and struck out six.

Pivetta Update

In his start this week for Lehigh Valley, Nick Pivetta went seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and four walks. He struck out 11 in a 99-pitch performance. His ERA in Triple-A is now 3.09.

Notable Season Stats

• Mickey Moniak has risen his average to .250 after a solid week at the plate. My one major concern with him continues to be his plate discipline. Haseley has five walks to 40 strikeouts – not good.
• For the season, Alec Bohm is slashing .338/.398/.550 with five home runs, 15 doubles and 25 RBIs in 39 games. Besides the couple games mentioned above, Bohm actually had an up-and-down week with Clearwater and his High-A average dropped to .306.
• Adonis Medina has a 4.64 ERA after seven starts for Reading. He has a WHIP of 1.42 and the Phillies would probably like to see more consistency out of him.
• Adam Haseley has gotten his average up to .254 on the season. He’s walked 19 times and scored 24 runs in 33 games.
• Luis Garcia is over the Mendoza line with his average up .206. He’s started to walk a little more, bringing his season total to 11.
•  JoJo Romero just can’t get it together. His has a 9.64 ERA with a WHIP of 2.25 and batters are hitting .358 against him. He was sent down to Double-A this week.
• Simon Muzziotti is up to .305 with his batting average. He’s added seven stolen bases and 22 runs scored. If Haseley continues to hit, he could be sent to Triple-A soon, which means the 20-year-old Muzziotti would be in line for a promotion to Double-A.
• Arquimedes Gamboa is slashing .133/.278/.178 with a .456 OPS for Reading.
• Nick Maton is slashing .302/.385/.429 with three home runs and six stolen bases. He could be on his way to Reading soon.
• David Parkinson has gotten his ERA down to 3.69 and his WHIP to 1.23. He’s only allowed one home run in 31.2 innings and that’s rather impressive because he pitches in Reading.
• Kyle Dohy just can’t find consistency in Lehigh Valley. He has a 13.00 ERA, but the big concern is 24 baserunners in nine innings- that includes 12 walks. The 14 strikeouts is pretty good, though.
• Deivy Grullon is hitting .342 with seven home runs and 30 RBIs for Lehigh Valley. The organization seems content with Andrew Knapp as J.T. Realmuto’s back-up, so not sure a call-up is in the near future for Grullon.
• J.D. Hammer actually had a bad outing this week, but his ERA is 1.77, which is pretty good. He’s struck out 26 in 20.1 innings, while only walking four.

Injury Report

This list is growing. Spencer Howard, arguably the Phillies best pitching prospect, is still out with the sore shoulder. Dylan Cozens remains out with the foot injury. Connor Seabold also remains out. Ranger Suarez is on the IL with an abdominal strain. Rafael Marchan also appears on the IL for Lakewood.
