The Philadelphia Phillies selected UNLV shortstop Bryson Stott in the first-round of the 2019 MLB Draft Monday night. Perhaps before they even get the chance to introduce him, their 2017 first-round pick will join the major league squad for the first time.

Manager Gabe Kapler told the collective media, which included Jim Salisbury of NBC Sports Philadelphia, that Adam Haseley, who the Phillies selected with the No. 8 pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, will join the Phillies tomorrow in San Diego. The reason? Andrew McCutchen suffered what the Phillies are calling a knee sprain Monday evening and will have an MRI tomorrow.

After walking in the top of the first inning Tuesday, Padres second baseman Ian Kinsler let a fly ball off the bat of Jean Segura drop, throwing him out at first and trapping McCutchen in a rundown. McCutchen was ultimately thrown out attempting to dive back into first base, and came up holding his left knee. He had to be helped off the field.

Salisbury did add that McCutchen didn’t believe after the game that he had suffered a serious ACL injury. McCutchen did take to Twitter to ask for prayers.

So with McCutchen’s status uncertain and Odubel Herrera on the restricted list, the Phillies will be forced to promote Haseley, who only has 25 at-bats at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Nick Williams, who was optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley Monday, and the recently acquired Jay Bruce, aren’t capable of playing center field. Haseley is, so the Phillies will promote the 23-year-old certainly earlier than they envisioned.

McCutchen is in the first year of a three-year/$50 million deal. The 32-year-old has slashed .256/.375/.457 with 10 home runs, 29 RBIs and a 1.6 fWAR. Ironically, before suffering the injury, he extended his National League lead in walks by reaching base on balls for the 43rd time this season.
