Jake Arrieta looks to put together his third straight quality start on Tuesday night against the Mets in Philadelphia
The Philadelphia Phillies (40-38) finally got back to their winning ways on Monday night, snapping a seven-game skid with a 13-7 rout of the New York Mets (37-42). Four of the nine hitters in the starting lineup tallied three hits or more and the top three in the lineup combined to go 9-for-17 with four runs scored and five RBIs. On Tuesday, the Phils will look to win consecutive games for the first time since June 7-8 as Jake Arrieta toes the rubber against their NL East rivals from New York.
Arrieta has been inconsistent to say the least in 2019, but has managed to put together back-to-back strong starts against the Diamondbacks and Nationals, allowing four runs over 12 innings combined between those two games. He’s allowed three runs or less in four of his last five of his last nine starts, but has surrendered five runs in two of his last four. His last outing came in a 2-0 loss to the Nationals on June 19. He went six innings and allowed one run, a homer, while striking out three. This will be the third time he’s faced the Mets this season.
Offensively, Scott Kingery has been a catalyst for the Phillies during the month off June (.329/.369/.671) and on Monday, Phillies manager Gabe Kapler moved the 25-year-old to the lead-off spot and he kept rolling. Kingery went 3-for-6 with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in the win. Maikel Franco has gone from everyday third baseman to the bench, but he had a breakout night at the plate in the series opener against the Mets, going 3-for-4 with a deep homer to center, three RBIs and two runs scored. Jean Segura has gotten hits in each of the last six games, raising his average seven points. He went 4-for-6 with a home run on Monday
Here’s how the teams lineup for Tuesday’s game. As you’ll notice, just one change for the Phils.
