Major League Baseball has officially unveiled the 2020 schedule. As the Phillies continue their downhill spiral with about 2.5 months left in the 2019 campaign, there are already some match-ups to look forward to next season. Opening Day is on March 26, the earliest in Phillies franchise history.
The Openers
Philadelphia’s 2020 season will begin on Thursday, March 26 at 4:10 p.m. against the Marlins on the road in Miami.
They will play a four-game set with the Marlins before visiting the Mets at Citi Field for three games. The Phils play 21 of their first 31 games on the road.
The Phillies open their home schedule on Thursday, April 2 at 3:05 p.m. against the Milwaukee Brewers. They’ll be in town for three games (April 2, 4, 5).
Interleague Opponents
The Interleague schedule for the Phillies in 2020 has some premiere opponents. Early in the season, young phenoms Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette visit Citizens Bank Park with the Toronto Blue Jays.
The first three games following the All-Star Break will be against Mike Trout and the Los Angeles Angels. This will be Trout’s first trip to Philadelphia since 2014. The Millville, New Jersey native has compiled two MVP awards and has appeared in the last eight All-Star Games during his nine-year tenure with the Angels. Bryce Harper and Trout will be going head-to-head for just the fourth time in their respective careers.
The Phillies hit the road for Interleague match-ups with the Mariners and Astros in early July. Astros starter Gerrit Cole is a free agent and should definitely be on the Phillies’ radar this offseason, so that series against Houston could potentially include a Cole return. In the Mariners, the Phillies will visit their former top prospect, J.P. Crawford, who was dealt to Seattle as a part of the trade that brought Jean Segura to Philadelphia.
Here’s the entirety of the Phillies Interleague slate for 2020:
- vs. Toronto: April 6-7
- vs. Rangers: April 21-22
- vs. Athletics: June 12-14
- at Mariners: July 3-5
- at Astros: July 7-9
- vs. Angels: July 17-19
- at Rangers: August 11-12
- at Blue Jays: September 15-16
Divisional Schedule
The Phillies play the Mets and the Marlins during the first seven-game stretch of the season. They don’t play the Braves or Nationals until May 4 and May 29, respectively.
