Phillies calling up Logan Morrison

The Philadelphia Phillies fired hitting coach John Mallee and replaced him with Charlie Manuel for the remainder of the 2019 season. The team is still looking for ways to add some power into the offense and they will try to do so with the help of a recent acquisition. On July 13, the Phils signed veteran Logan Morrison to a minor league deal. According to Jeff Passan, he’s on his way to Philadelphia to join the Phillies.
Morrison is available for the Phillies as early as Tuesday, per Matt Breen of Philly.com. Jake Arrieta is headed to the injured list.
Morrison, 31, has played 18 games for Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He’s slashing .356/.435/.593 with five doubles, three homers, 12 RBIs, seven walks and 12 strikeouts. In 61 games this season at the minor league level, he’s hitting .308 with 18 home runs and 49 RBIs. He last played in the big leagues with the Twins in 2018. In 95 games, he hit just .186.
It is unclear at this point if Morrison will become a mainstay in the lineup or if he will just be a power bat off the bench with the ability to give Rhys Hoskins a break every now and then. Hoskins has been struggling big time. Over the last 23 games, he’s slashing .170/.311/.352.
