Here’s how to vote for J.T. Realmuto for the Platinum Glove Award

Philadelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto received the first Gold Glove Award in his career Sunday night, but another defensive honor may be in store for him later this week.

Now that he has officially been named the best defensive catcher in the National League for this past season, Realmuto is now eligible for the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award.

The Platinum Glove Award is described on the Rawlings website as “a new fan-centric platform asking the game’s avid fans who the best defensive baseball player is among that season’s Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners.”

The Phillies backstop has a strong case for being named the best fielder in all of baseball. He excelled at arguably the most demanding position in the sport this season. Realmuto posted a defensive WAR of 27.8 in 2019, which was the best of any player in either league by a wide margin.

How voting works

The voting system for the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award consists of a fan vote combined with “a new sabermetric component from the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award’s new presenting sponsor, the Society for American Baseball Research.”

Each winner of a Gold Glove is eligible for Platinum Glove voting. Fans can vote for one of these winners from each league. There will be a Platinum Glove winner from both the National League and American League.

How to vote

Fans can vote for the Realmuto or any other Gold Glover on the Rawlings website. Fan voting is open from Sunday night until Thursday, Nov. 7.

The winners of the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award will be announced on Friday, Nov. 8, at 9:15 p.m.
