Update: Harper says he’s alright. You can read the full story here.
Though it will probably prove to just be precautionary, Bryce Harper exited the Philadelphia Phillies-Minnesota Twins Spring Training game Tuesday after the inside of his left foot was hit by a pitch.
Harper, who had been off to a hot start this spring, was hit by Twins righty Sean Poppen in the bottom of the first inning. As Harper tried to take a second to collect himself, Joe Girardi elected to pull him from the game:
He walked off under his own power and walked around in the dugout, so there’s no indication that Harper suffered any sort of injury, but it is worth monitoring.
Last March, Harper was hit by a pitch on his right ankle in a Spring Training game, a much scarier moment than what ensued Tuesday. He didn’t end up missing any time, other than leaving that specific game.
Harper, who is entering his second season with the Phillies, already has two home runs this Spring Training. A year ago, he homered 35 times and drove in 114 runs.
