Seranthony Dominguez felt tightness, is ‘really concerned’ about setback

On Wednesday, it was announced that Phillies reliever Seranthony Dominguez suffered a setback in his recovery from a UCL injury he sustained in June 2019. Today, Dominguez spoke to the collective media, including Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer, about the injury.

“I’m really concerned,” Dominguez said. “Because it’s my career. It’s my life.”

According to Lauber’s report, Dominguez felt “tightness” after his outing last Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays. He pitched one inning and reached 95 mph on the radar gun in a 9-0 loss in Dunedin, Florida.

It’s uncertain whether or not the regular season will begin on time due to the concerns surrounding COVID-19, but if it does, it is highly unlikely Dominguez will be ready to start the season. The best case scenario for the Phillies is that the setback is minor and that he will be ready to pitch at the beginning of the regular season. It’s realistic to wonder whether or not Dominguez will ultimately need Tommy John surgery, which he avoided in late August of 2019.
