Phillies Nation Perfect Season: Kingery’s slam leads Phillies to victory over Reds

The first dollar dog night of the season is always a cause for celebration. Even more so considering ace Aaron Nola was on the mound to take on the Cincinnati Reds. Despite the cool temperatures, Nola took care of business, going eight innings while allowing only one run on three hits.

The offense remained hitless until the sixth inning, struggling to break through against starter Homer Bailey. They took the lead in the seventh off a J.P. Crawford RBI single against future former Phillies reliever Jared Hughes.

In the eighth, the Reds made the interesting decision to walk Nick Williams and load the bases for Scott Kingery. Kingery made them pay, as he pulled his first career grand slam over the wall in left to give his team a 6-1 lead.
