May 23, 2015- Phillies 8, Nationals 1
On a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon in the nation’s capital, just under 42,000 fans stood in National Park to see the Phillies erupt and dominate on both offense and defense. Cole Hamels posted a line of 8 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K during a 8-1 Phillies victory over the Nationals.
It was in the third inning where the Phillies bats would get to Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg. With one on, two-out, Maikel Franco ripped a 96 MPH fastball into right-center field for his second home run of the season to put the Phillies up 4-0:
The Phillies would go on to score four more runs over the next three innings, cruising their way to the 8-1 victory.
Offensively, Phillies hitters combined for five extra-base hits. Ryan Howard would hit his 10th double and home run of the season during the afternoon as well.
For Hamels, the win marked the first time since 2012 that he won four straight games over a five-game span. In addition, it was the first time the Phillies beat Strasburg since July 31, 2012.
