May 9, 2010- Phillies 5, Braves 3
The Phillies were looking to end their ten-game homestand on a high note with a Mother’s Day victory over the Atlanta Braves. Starter Cole Hamels was coming off his best outing of the season against the Cardinals.
The pink bats were working well that day as three Phillies homered in the 5-3 victory. Jayson Werth, who came into this game with 10 RBIs during the homestand, hit a solo shot in the third. It was a milestone round-tripper as it was his 100th career home run. He also came up big in left with an outfield assist that saved a run in the first. Shane Victorino and Plácido Polanco also homered.
The bullpen, however, was the biggest reason for why the Phillies finished the homestand with a 7-3 record. Hamels was ousted after putting up an average line score of 5 IP, 8H, 3ER, 4BB, 5K. Chad Durbin, José Contreras and Brad Lidge combined for four shutout innings and five strikeouts.
