Every day until Opening Day arrives, Phillies Nation will take a daily look back at a regular season victory from that particular day in history that you can watch in full in lieu of live Phillies baseball. Think of it is as your daily Phillies watch recommendation.
May 16, 2018- Phillies 4, Orioles 1
When Adam Jones gave the Orioles an early 1-0 lead on a first-inning solo home run, it looked like it might not be Nick Pivetta’s day. But the 25-year-old bounced back for the best start of his career and helped carry the Phillies to their sixth win in seven games. With the previous game rained-out, it meant the Phillies won the one-game series in Baltimore. The second game would be made up later that season in July, which they went on to win.
Pivetta allowed just two baserunners the rest of the way and exited after seven strong innings. His 11 strikeouts tied a career-high at that point, and the flash of brilliance showed why some are very high on the young pitcher.
The Phillies offense, meanwhile, did most of their damage in the sixth inning. Cesar Hernandez led off with a solo home run to tie it up, and Maikel Franco and Pedro Florimon both added RBI singles to give the Phillies a 3-1 lead. Rhys Hoskins added one more on an RBI double in the seventh, and the Phillies beat the Orioles, 4-1.

Phillies Notes: Pivetta got 22 swinging strikes in this outing, which remains the most in his career to this day. His closest came in an outing later in 2018, when he struck out 13 against the St Louis Cardinals and got 20 swings and misses.
