Phillies Nation Perfect Season: Nola continues 2016 hot stretch

Every day until Opening Day arrives, Phillies Nation will take a daily look back at a regular season victory from that particular day in history that you can watch in full in lieu of live Phillies baseball. Think of it is as your daily Phillies watch recommendation.

May 3, 2016- Phillies 1, Cardinals 0

Heading into his first career start against the St. Louis Cardinals, 22-year-old Aaron Nola was coming off the best start of his big league career. He threw seven shutout innings and struck out seven while only allowing two hits and one walk in a win against the Washington Nationals in D.C. He managed to put up the same final line against a Cardinals team that scored 10 runs in the first game of the series.

The only Phillies run came off a Ryan Howard solo shot in the sixth inning. There were certain teams Howard absolutely destroyed during his 13-year MLB career and his hometown Cardinals were one of them. Coming into this game, Howard averaged one home run for every 11 at-bats against Cardinals pitching. He ended his career with a 1.083 OPS in 70 career games against St. Louis.
