Every day until Opening Day arrives, Phillies Nation will take a daily look back at a regular season victory from that particular day in history that you can watch in full in lieu of live Phillies baseball. Think of it is as your daily Phillies watch recommendation.
May 24, 2009 – Phillies 4, Yankees 3
2009 wasn’t kind to Brad Lidge. After being perfect in save situations in 2008, Lidge blew four of his first 12 opportunities, including two against the New York Yankees in the Bronx. The second blown save of the series came in the Memorial Day matinee finale. Lidge was tasked with preserving a one-run lead to give Cole Hamels the win over CC Sabathia. Melky Cabrera, who walked-off the previous game, came through again with a single that scored Ramiro Peña and tied the game.
Carlos Ruiz, who threw out two baserunners and tagged out Johnny Damon earlier in the game, was the hero in extra innings. His double in the 11th led the Phillies to a series victory over the Yankees:
