Phillies Nation Perfect Season: Werth makes history between the basepaths

Entering the night on a two-game losing streak and losing six out of their last 10, the Phillies needed to find a way to turn things around. However, their next opponent, the Los Angeles Dodgers, wouldn’t make that so easy. The Dodgers came into Citizens Bank Park hot, winning seven of their last 10.

Charlie Manuel saw there was a need to change up the top of the lineup as Jimmy Rollins struggled in the previous series against the Braves going 2-for-15. J-Roll found himself in the five-hole for the first game against the Dodgers. 

The Phillies would break open the game and get to then-young Dodgers pitcher Clayton Kershaw in the fourth by scoring four runs. 

Already snagging second and third base in the inning, Jayson Werth decided to add some excitement to the seventh inning. Timing it perfectly from third until Russel Martin lobbed the ball back to pitcher Ronald Belisario, Werth stole home for his fourth stolen base of the game:

The former first-round pick became the first major leaguer to complete the stolen-base trifecta since Eric Young did it in 1996 with the Colorado Rockies. In addition, Werth tied the franchise record that was established by Sherry Magee and Gary Maddox.
