Every day until Opening Day arrives, Phillies Nation will take a daily look back at a regular-season victory from that particular day in history that you can watch in full in lieu of live Phillies baseball. Think of it is as your daily Phillies watch recommendation.
June 2, 2015 – Phillies 5, Reds 4
What began as a heavy drizzle ended in late-game fireworks. The Reds got to Phillies starter Sean O’Sullivan early, jumping out to a 4-1 lead after four innings as the rain slowed down.
In the sixth inning, Chase Utley whacked an 81 MPH breaking ball out to right-center field for a solo shot, bringing the Phils within two. It was Utley’s third hit of the game.
Two innings later, with one on and two outs, Maikel Franco belted a laser line drive of a shot just within the left-field foul pole to tie the game at 4-4.
After a 1-2-3 top of the ninth inning from Jonathan Papelbon, Odbuel Herrera started the bottom half of the inning with an opposite-field double. With the winning run just 90 feet away, Darin Ruf stepped up to the plate pinch-hitting for Papelbon. Ruf looped a single over Joey Votto into right field to walk it off:
For Ruf, it was his first career walk-off hit. In addition, the Phillies got their second win of the season when trailing after seven innings and avoided tying their worst losing streak since 2013.
