Every day until Opening Day arrives, Phillies Nation will take a daily look back at a regular-season victory from that particular day in history that you can watch in full in lieu of live Phillies baseball. Think of it is as your daily Phillies watch recommendation.
June 22, 2011 – Phillies 4, Cardinals 0
For the second consecutive start, Cliff Lee was near-untouchable.
Just six days after two-hitting the Florida Marlins, Lee again pitched the whole way without allowing a single run. The Cardinals reached base just seven times on the day, as Lee won his fourth consecutive start in the midst of a dominant stretch.
On the offensive side, Jimmy Rollins started the damage in the top of the fourth against former teammate Kyle Lohse, smacking a home run to lead off the inning and give the Phillies a 1-0 lead. They added two more in the inning on a Chase Utley single followed by a Ryan Howard home run, giving Lee plenty of room to pitch them to a victory.
With this start, Lee became the first Phillie since Corey Lidle in 2004 to pitch a complete-game shutout in back-to-back starts. His ERA throughout June to this point was a miniscule 0.27, and would only improve in his next start against the Boston Red Sox.
