Every day until Opening Day arrives, Phillies Nation will take a daily look back at a regular season victory from that particular day in history that you can watch in full in lieu of live Phillies baseball. Think of it as your daily Phillies watch recommendation.
June 4, 2013 – Phillies 7, Marlins 3
Behind some late-inning heroics from John Mayberry Jr., the 2013 Phillies beat the Marlins to win their third straight.
The game was started by rookie Jonathan Pettibone, who pitched six solid innings. He allowed one run in the second on a Casey Kotchman RBI groundout, and another in the fifth on an RBI single by Rob Brantly that gave Miami a 2-0 lead.
Meanwhile, the Phillies struggled to get things going against veteran Ricky Nolasco, who kept them scoreless over his first six innings of work. However, in the botttom of the seventh, they tied things up on RBI doubles from Delmon Young and Erik Kratz.
The game remained scoreless into the top of the 10th inning, when the Marlins took the lead on an Antonio Bastardo wild pitch that allowed Juan Pierre to score from third. The Phillies tied things up in the bottom half of the frame, however, on a solo home run by John Mayberry Jr.
Mayberry, who entered the game as a pinch hitter, got his chance to give the Phillies a win in the 11th. He came up with the bases loaded and two outs and ripped a walk-off grand slam to left to give the Phillies a 7-3 win in dramatic fashion.
