June 9, 1993 – Phillies 8, Astros 0
The Houston Astros had no answers for Terry Mulholland on this date in 1993. The left-hander held the Astros lineup scoreless for all nine innings, good for his sixth complete game and second shutout of the season. Mulholland had command of the strike zone all night, throwing 79 strikes to just 27 balls while walking no batters. The Astros managed just six hits off Mulholland, who earned his seventh win of 1993 to bring the Phillies to 40-17 on the year.
Houston starting pitcher Pete Harnisch did not fare as well in this game. A second-inning home run off the bat of catcher Darren Daulton gave the Phillies the lead, and an RBI single by Mickey Morandini made it 2-0 to end the frame. Harnisch gave up four more runs, including three on home runs from Len Dykstra and Milt Thompson.
Jim Eisenreich added to the lead with a two-run home run off reliever Juan Agosto in the seventh, his third extra base hit of the game. The Phillies cruised past the Astros 8-0 behind the efforts of the offense and Mulholland, continuing their hot start to the season.
