A day after his 23rd birthday, Aaron Nola matched his career-high in strikeouts while throwing six shutout innings in a Sunday afternoon victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.
The Phillies’ offense secured a comfortable lead for Nola in the fifth. In the game’s second instance of fan interference, Tommy Joseph hit a line drive to right-center field that was initially ruled a home run. After extensive review, the crew chief called fan interference and Joseph returned to second base. Nonetheless, the Phillies had a 4-0 lead:
The call didn’t prove to be much of an issue as Jimmy Parades smacked a three-run home run the very next at-bat:
The Phillies would go back-to-back as Cameron Rupp homered to left to make it an 8-0 game:
The win marked Nola’s fifth of 2016 and the team’s fourth victory in the last sixteen games.
