Phillies Nation Perfect Season: Ruiz, Victorino lead Phillies over Dodgers on Sunday Night Baseball

After losing two nights in a row on walk-offs, the Philadelphia Phillies came out on top on Sunday Night Baseball and earned a series split with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

In his second career start, Antonio Bastardo provided the Phillies with an impressive performance as he limited the Dodgers, who entered the night with the league’s best record, to just two runs over five innings. 

With the game tied 2-2 heading into the seventh inning, the Phillies offense got some big hits from its veteran players. Carlos Ruiz and Shane Victorino both went deep in the inning to break open the game 6-2. Ruiz finished 2-for-3 on the night with a two-run home run and three RBIs. 

The Phillies improved to 32-5 on the season when scoring three or more runs in a game. According to Elias Sports Book,

it was the first time Jimmy Rollins had hit lower than fifth in the batting order since May 26, 2006. He went 2-for-4 with a run scored as the six-hole hitter.
