June 1, 2009 – Phillies 5, Padres 3
The first-place Philadelphia Phillies entered the month of June as one of the best offensive teams in the league. They led the National League in home runs thanks to the power trio of Chase Utley, Ryan Howard and Raúl Ibañez. The three combined for 42 home runs through the first two months of the 2009 season.
Utley and Howard struck again as back-to-back home runs from the pair in the fifth led the Phillies to victory:
Joe Blanton, who threw seven innings and earned the victory, also gave up back-to-back home runs to Adrián González and Scott Hariston. Brad Lidge earned his 13th save of the season.
