On Wednesday morning, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported that for the second-consecutive day, all Phillies on-field personnel have tested negative for COVID-19.
In consolidation with national and local public health officials, Major League Baseball has also determined that it’s best for the Phillies to wait five days before resuming their 2020 season, per The Athletic. This means the Phillies will resume playing with a Saturday afternoon doubleheader and a series finale on Sunday.
Matt Gelb of The Athletic also reported that the Phillies will workout today at Citizens Bank Park in staggered groups since their tests came back negative.
One additional Marlins player also tested positive for the coronavirus on Wednesday, bringing the total number of infected players and staff members to 18.
Update 2:36 pm ET: Per an MLB press release, the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader will begin at 3:07 pm ET. Sunday’s game will also begin at 3:07 pm ET.
