Earlier Tuesday, it was reported that the Phillies-Yankees game scheduled for tonight at 6:05 pm ET at Citizens Bank Park has been postponed. It appears both games between those two teams scheduled to take place in the Bronx on Wednesday and Thursday have also been postponed. Nothing has been officially announced.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Phillies will remain isolated from each other from Tuesday through Thursday after 17 Marlins players and staff members tested positive for COVID-19 over the weekend while in Philadelphia.
Bob Brookover of the Philadelphia Inquirer first reported that the Phillies are expected to take the field on July 31 for their series against the Toronto Blue Jays as the away team at Citizens Bank Park. The series was originally scheduled to take place in Toronto from July 31-Aug. 2. After the Canadian government did not give the Jays approval to play at home, the team settled for Sahlen Field in Buffalo as their temporary home. However, the field is not yet ready for play, so the series was moved to Citizens Bank Park.
The Phillies will be tested for coronavirus every day until at least Friday, per Matt Gelb of The Athletic. MLB protocols call for testing every-other-day.
Meanwhile, the Marlins’ season has been put on pause temporarily. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the team is in quarantine in Philadelphia and is not expected to play a game for another week. Ironically, the Phillies and Marins are scheduled to open another series against each other next Monday in Miami.
Earlier today, it was also reported that there were no additional positive cases among Phillies players. A Phillies visiting clubhouse attendant who worked in the Marlins’ clubhouse over the weekend tested positive, per Nightengale
.If you’re wondering about what’s going on with Yankees, they are now scheduled to play against the Orioles at Camden Yards on Wednesday and Thursday.
