Just a few short hours after reportedly outrighting Adam Morgan and Heath Hembree, the Phillies have removed two more players from the 40-man roster. According to 6ABC’s Jeff Skversky, utility man Phil Gosselin is being placed on waivers. NBC Sports Philadelphia’s John Clark also reports that Blake Parker has been outrighted.
Gosselin, a native of West Chester, PA, emerged as the best Phillies designated hitter in 2020, slashing .406/.486/.656 in that spot. Gosselin also proved to be very versatile for them. He played all over the infield and outfield. All in all, the 32-year-old has appeared in 83 games for the Phillies in parts of two seasons. His outrighting doesn’t mean Gosselin couldn’t return to the organization at the minor league level, but he’ll likely get serious looks in free agency due to his performance as the Phillies’ DH.
Meanwhile, Parker heads off the 40-man after being claimed on waivers by the Phils from Minnesota in 2019. He posted a 5.04 ERA in 23 games after joining the Phils last year, but was mostly effective in 2020. He only appeared in 14 games, though, due to injury. He finished the season with a 2.81 ERA and a WHIP of 1.313.
