The two-time All-Star was named to the All-MLB second team on Wednesday night as the league’s second-best catcher during this past season. Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez was named the first team’s catcher, an honor for which Realmuto was named a finalist.

Realmuto played 47 games in the shortened 2020 season, posting a slash line of .266/.348/.491. His 11 home runs and four stolen bases were both tied for first among major-league catchers. He also finished second in runs scored and tied for second in RBIs among catchers.

The 29-year-old also had a strong year defensively behind the plate, accumulating 4.7 defensive WAR, according to FanGraphs.

Realmuto was the All-MLB first team’s catcher last year in its first year, before earning second-team honors for 2020. He now enters free agency this offseason coming off those two strong seasons, potentially set to sign one of the biggest contracts in history for a catcher.
