So my first game was to be a group outing from our synagogue. It was a Sunday game in June, 1971.
I could not wait to see what the Vet looked like from the inside. I had seen it on TV but was elated at the thought of going to see a real game up close.
As the bus pulled up to the Vet, we were informed that the game was rained out. I was so sad and disappointed.
My dad, knowing how upset I was over the rainout took me himself to a game a few weeks later.
It was a Saturday night game. Our seats were behind home plate, but closer to the top of the section. I saw all my Phillies play that night.
I was quite scared when a pop foul would come up our way, but my dad protected me. I don’t remember the score, but we lost.
It didn’t matter. They were my Phils, and still are to this day.
