Former Phillie Blake Parker signs minor-league deal with Cleveland

Former Philadelphia Phillies reliever Blake Parker has reached a minor-league deal with Cleveland that will include an invite to major league spring training, per Jon Heyman of RADIO.COM.

The deal, according to Heyman, could be worth “close to $2.5 million if all incentives are hit.”

After being acquired in July of 2019, Parker struggled in his first action with the Phillies, posting a 5.04 ERA and 4.69 FIP in 23 appearances. However, Parker was re-signed to a minor-league deal ahead of the 2020 season by the Phillies. Though he wasn’t on the opening day roster, the veteran righty ended up being one of the few brights spots in an otherwise disastrous bullpen, posting a 2.81 ERA and 3.38 FIP in 14 appearances.

New president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski told Phillies Nation last week that the club remained in contact with Parker, though it’s unclear if an offer was ever extended. For what it’s worth, Heyman reports that Parker actually turned down an MLB offer to accept the non-roster invitee pact with Cleveland.
